From Academy Award® nominated director Bruce Beresford comes the comedy drama Ladies in Black, based on Madeleine St John’s best-selling novel, The Women in Black.

Set in the summer of 1959, when the impact of European migration and the rise of women’s liberation is about to change Australia forever, Lisa, aged sixteen, takes a holiday job at the prestigious Sydney department store, Goode’s. There she meets the ladies in black, when she is assigned to assist sales ladies Patty and Fay.

Beguiled and influenced by Magda, the vivacious manager of the high-fashion boutique Model Gowns, Lisa is awakened to a world of possibilities. As she grows from a bookish schoolgirl into a glamorous and positive young woman, the impact they have on each other will change all their lives.

The film stars an outstanding ensemble cast including Julia Ormond (Mad Men, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, The Legends of the Fall, King Arthur), Angourie Rice (Spiderman: Homecoming, The Beguiled, Jasper Jones ,The Nice Guys), Rachael Taylor (Jessica Jones, Gold, Red Dog), Ryan Corr (Mary Magdalene, Ali’s Wedding, Hacksaw Ridge) and Alison McGirr.

The cast is rounded out with some of Australia’s best-known actors including Susie Porter, Shane Jacobson, Noni Hazlehurst and Nicholas Hammond.
