Mark your diary for Wednesday November 15 from 9am to 3pm for the annual free Have a Go Day… a Livelighter event at Burswood Park.
A huge team of volunteers contribute to bring Have a Go Day to fruition with its aim to encourage older adults to remain connected and active. The day is ably steered by Seniors Recreation Council of WA’s executive officer Dawn Yates along with president Phil Paddon.
Healthy ageing through activity is the ethos of both Have a Go News and the Seniors Recreation Council of WA and this synergy has a more than 31-year history with both teams working to deliver positive ageing outcomes for Western Australians.
I continue to see the results firsthand of the many people who have maintained physical activity and strong social connections throughout their later years and this event provides an opportunity to achieve this. (80 is the new 60!)
Have a Go Day offers a plethora of activities for people to try, clubs to join, new hobbies to find, entertainment to enjoy and relevant information to source.
With more than 200 stall holders there is something for everyone to have a go at, including seated volleyball, pickle ball, dancing, flower making along with many other activities.
Take the opportunity to be adventurous and canoe on the river and enjoy the freedom of this fabulous water-based activity.
The very popular Trishaws for Seniors will be on the grounds offering people free rides around the park.
Following the formal proceedings at 10.30am, the WA Police Pipe Band will lead the Over 55 Walking Association for the annual walk around the park.
For those who want to become savvier with technology, Tech Savvy Seniors will be on hand with information, advice and electronic activities to try.
Health information and checks are available including hearing tests, blood pressure and blood sugar testing.
Have a Go News will be running the hospitality tents which serve free tea, coffee and water in a café style with tables and chairs to stop and relax. The chocolate wheel will be spinning at the main tent every hour with great prizes available.
The entertainment stage sponsored by Juniper offers a fabulous line-up including the WA Police Pipe Band, duo Klassworks, Kevin Bennett and Moira J Scott along with many other artists.
There is a huge variety of food and drink outlets on site or bring a picnic and enjoy all that beautiful Burswood Park has to offer.
Age is no barrier to getting out and having fun so plan to visit Have a Go Day – a LiveLighter event on Wednesday November 15 from 9am to 3pm.
